Small Town in Nova Scotia Breaks World Record for Largest Potluck Dinner – A Celebration of Unity and Diversity

The small town of Truro, Nova Scotia, made history last weekend by hosting the world’s largest potluck dinner, bringing together over 3,500 residents for an unforgettable evening of food, music, and laughter.

The event, organized by the Truro Community Association, shattered the previous record of 2,800 attendees set by a town in Texas in 2019. Locals proudly contributed homemade dishes ranging from classic Maritime lobster rolls to Acadian meat pies, Ukrainian perogies, and Indigenous bannock.

“It was incredible to see so many people sharing food, stories, and smiles,” said Mayor Bill Mills. “This wasn’t just about breaking a record—it was about celebrating what makes our town special: our people.”

The evening also featured live performances by local musicians and a charity fundraiser for the local food bank, raising over $15,000. Guinness World Records officials were present to verify the count, officially declaring Truro the new record holder.

“This is what Canada is all about,” said attendee Martha LeBlanc. “No matter where we come from, we can always come together over good food and good company.”
